Poverty is tough on a family. It creates a
relentless chaos that raises the likelihood of
incarceration, homelessness, becoming a single
parent, failing to complete high school, and even
dying younger. Science also tells us that this
chaos, and the stress it creates, affects brain
development, diminishing the very problem
solving skills that a family needs to get out. As a
result a child living in poverty in Lucas County
today has a 1 in 6 chance of ever getting out.
Baby University serves over 100 families a
year, giving them skills to be the best
parents that they can be. We enable parents
to reduce the stress of poverty in their lives
so that their families can thrive. We give
families the knowledge, skills and resources
to become self sustaining and raise healthy
children who can enter school ready to
learn.
