A political action committee dedicated to defeating Rep. Jim Jordan is launching a new cable TV ad in Washington and Ohio.

“Jim Jordan is leading the charge to protect Donald Trump. We’re leading the charge to remove Jim Jordan from Congress,” the narrator says in the 15-second commercial, designed to draw new donors during the U.S. House’s impeachment inquiry.

The commercial from “The Jordan Watch” will begin airing Thursday morning on MSNBC. It will also air in Oberlin, home of Oberlin College and the most liberal part of Mr. Jordan’s district, which extends from northern Ohio to the Columbus suburbs.

Oberlin is also the home of Mr. Jordan’s three-time challenger, Janet Garrett, who started the PAC with her former campaign manager Zach Stepp, an Ohio House candidate.

Organizers have hoped to grow the PAC’s support during the impeachment hearings, which have featured the Urbana Republican, an avid defender of President Trump, on the House Judiciary Committee and the Intelligence panel.

“Many Americans are distraught watching members of Congress like Jim Jordan do backflips to defend the indefensible crimes of President Trump,” Mr. Stepp, the PAC’s director, said in a statement.

The group has raised more than $63,000 in the last year, with organizers saying the money will go toward helping candidates challenging Mr. Jordan. So far, three candidates have filed to compete in the Democratic primary — Mike Larsen, Shannon Freshour, and Jeffrey Sites — and one candidate, former Republican Chris Gibbs, considering a run as an independent.

“For the first time in a long time, we have a big group of candidates lining up to run against Jim Jordan,” Ms. Garrett said. “I remember before my first two races begging people to run. Now people are finding me asking how to get started.”

Ms. Garrett, a retired teacher, was not able to get within 30 points of Mr. Jordan — who’s currently the biggest fund-raiser in the state’s U.S. House delegation — in her past races in the heavily Republican 4th Congressional District. She declined to run again in 2020.

Mr. Jordan’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) is followed by reporters as he walks on Capitol Hill in Washington on Tuesday.
