Arson blamed for city fire

An intentionally set fire destroyed a large, vacant duplex house on Delaware Avenue early Friday, according to the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 12:51 a.m. to 1432 W. Delaware Ave. where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor, according to fire department spokesman Sterling Rahe. Crews reported water on the fire at 12:57 a.m. Firefighters found a pile of debris in the room where the fire started.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, and there was no damage to neighboring homes.
Investigators put the value of the total loss at $5,000. The owner is identified on the Lucas County Auditor’s website as Thomas Vandermeer.
