BEAVERDAM, Ohio — An Ontario man died Tuesday in a four-vehicle chain reaction crash involving two tractor-trailers on southbound I-75 in Allen County’s Richland Township.

Bhardwaj Vidit, 24, of Brampton, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene by an Allen County coroner’s investigator.

Troopers at the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Mr. Vidit was driving south on I-75 just north of Beaverdam about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when his semi struck the rear of a semi driven by Wisam Dawood, 34, of Belle River, Ont., which was slowing for stopped traffic ahead.

The impact pushed Mr. Dawood’s semi into a pickup driven by Richard Fender, 66, of Tipp City, Ohio, which struck the rear of a car driven by Quincy Calcido, 23, of Van Wert, Ohio.

Mr. Vidit’s trailer and part of the tractor came to rest off the right side of the road, troopers said.

A construction zone south of the crash site caused the traffic backup, troopers said.

Mr. Dawood was taken to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment. Mr. Fender and Mr. Salcido, who said they were not injured, were treated at the scene.

Troopers, who said everyone reportedly wore a seat belt, are continuing to investigate.

Beaverdam is about 60 miles southwest of Toledo.
