A West Toledo man entered a plea Monday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to the fatal beating of another man.

Anthony Jefferson Jr., 20, of the 3100 block of Matson Street, entered a guilty plea to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, in connection to the July 2 death of Antonio Scott, 40, while in the 2800 block of Airport Highway.

Jefferson was originally charged with murder and felonious assault. The murder charge was amended and the felonious assault charge will be dismissed at sentencing on Dec. 23.

Judge Alfonso Gonzalez referred Jefferson for a pre-sentence report prior to sentencing.

On July 2, Jefferson and Mr. Scott were in an argument that escalated. Police say Jefferson later admitted to beating Mr. Scott, who was admitted to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he died.

An autopsy determined Mr. Scott died from head injuries.
