BOWLING GREEN — Part of I-75 south of Bowling Green was closed for several hours Monday into early Tuesday after two related crashes occurred, the first involving a wrong-way motorcyclist whose vehicle struck a state trooper’s cruiser, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash involving the motorcycle and cruiser was reported just before 10 p.m. on southbound I-75 near U.S. 6, south of Bowling Green, which led to a subsequent accident involving another vehicle and motorcycle that were slowing in the area, troopers at the patrol’s Bowling Green post said.

Troopers initially responded to the area in response to a report about the wrong-way motorcyclist. Trooper Jeffery Huffman, 30, saw a motorcycle headed north in the southbound lanes and moved onto the left shoulder with his emergency lights activated, according to the patrol.

His patrol car was then struck by the 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Daniel Stover, 52, of Findlay, who was ejected by the impact.

While that was occurring, troopers said, a pickup truck driven by Darrell Lanier, 58, of Lambertville, Mich., was slowing in the freeway’s right lane and was rear-ended by a motorcycle driven by Ryan Gleckler, 35, of Bluffton, Ohio. Mr. Gleckler also was ejected from his motorcycle.

The trooper and the two motorcyclists were taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, according to the patrol. Mr. Gleckler sustained serious injuries, Stover suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, and Mr. Huffman had minor injuries.

Mr. Lanier and a passenger in his vehicle both wore seat belts and were not injured, troopers said. Both motorcycles were heavily damaged, while the cruiser and pickup had minor damage.

The freeway’s southbound lanes were closed until about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash remained under investigation. Impairment appeared to be a factor in Stover’s crash, the patrol said.
