ELMORE — An Elmore, Ohio police officer was arrested Tuesday by the FBI on a child-pornography charge after agents executed search warrants at his Elmore home and his previous residence in Oregon, the FBI’s Cleveland Division announced.

Samuel Kurp, 26, is scheduled to appear Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Toledo in relation to the charge of receipt and distribution of child pornography.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said its inquiry began after authorities received a “cyber tip” indicating someone had been using a social-media messenger app to send 26 videos or image files of “child sexual abuse material” to another user or group of users. The Elmore Police Department confirmed Mr. Kurp had been at work at specific times when images or videos were distributed, the FBI said.

Mr. Kurp has been an Elmore police officer since 2017, according to the FBI. His arrest by the Toledo Resident Agency’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force occurred without incident, the bureau said.
