A man reported missing last week was found dead Sunday evening, and Toledo police are investigating the matter as a homicide.

Officers were called at 7:14 p.m. to the 600 block of Pinewood Avenue in central Toledo. First responders located a body in a field near the alley between Pinewood and Woodland Avenue, according to a report.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office identified the decomposing remains Monday as those of 19-year-old Derlanis Holman. An autopsy determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, although no bullets were recovered, according to a news release.

Police said Mr. Holman had been reported missing Aug. 2. The Blade’s records request for the missing person report is pending.

The death represents the 31st homicide in the city this year. There were 20 homicides in Toledo by Aug. 8 last year.
