A second Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority bus driver has tested positive for the coronavirus, but the transit authority renewed its public assurance Tuesday that the chance riders had been exposed was minimal.

The driver last drove a bus Aug. 5 and that vehicle has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, TARTA said in announcing the case Tuesday. As with the previous report, the transit authority declined to identify which routes the driver had worked, saying that would compromise the employee’s privacy.

TARTA suspended fare collection soon after the pandemic became widely known in the United States in mid-March and has required its drivers to wear facial masks for most of that time as well. More recently, the transit authority began installing plastic barriers to separate drivers from passengers.

Along with the two drivers, two TARTA office workers have been diagnosed since the pandemic began. Both of them have since returned to work.
