3 Whitmer, 2 Perrysburg football players make All-Ohio 1st team in Division I

Three Whitmer players and two from Perrysburg have received first team honors on the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association Division I All-Ohio football team released Wednesday by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Whitmer’s Jared Banks, a hard-to-tackle, 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior running back, rushed for 1,777 yards and scored 29 touchdowns for the 10th-ranked, 9-1 Panthers during the regular season,

After two playoff games, Banks finished with a school-record 2,195 rushing yards and had 34 TDs. He was the Three Rivers Athletic Conference and Northwest district offensive player of the year.

Joining him on the first team are 6-1, 210-pound junior linebacker Kameron Vargas, who had 99 tackles (6 for losses) and two interceptions during the regular season for the Panthers, and was named district defensive player of the year.

Romelle Grier, a 6-3, 275-pound defensive lineman (58 tackles, 12 sacks) was the other Panther named to the D-I first team.

Selected to the first team from Perrysburg were 6-3, 195-pound senior receiver Nic Kilbride, who had 39 catches for 818 yards and eight TDs during the regular season for the 8-2 Yellow Jackets, and 6-3, 275-pound offensive lineman Austin Collins, who has committed to play at Louisville.

Named to the second team were Perrysburg senior quarterback Drew Sims, who passed for 2,401 yards and 21 TDs as a senior after missing almost his entire junior season because of a knee injury, and Whitmer’s 6-5, 240-pound senior offensive lineman Tate Parker.

Two Panther seniors were selected to the D-I third team — quarterback Riley Keller and defensive back James Covington.

Keller, who has committed to play at Bowling Green State University, was named to the D-I first team in 2017, and to the second team last season. He battled through a shoulder injury as a junior and missed three games this year with a wrist injury.
