In a recent letter to the editor, May 18, the writer wrote about “learning from history.”

May I suggest the same opinion by none other than President Franklin Roosevelt. These were his four freedoms: Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.

I know of a few governors who should remember them. They are also Democrats.

Corey Meadows not right site for facility

My husband and I have lived in Corey Meadows for 26 years. Our son grew up here playing on the streets and in the ravine that runs through the neighborhood.

The entrance to Corey Meadows is directly across from the proposed entrance to an unwanted, unneeded senior assisted living facility. This is a family place, not a care-facility place.

It is important to preserve neighborhoods and communities like this area on Whiteford Road.

The welfare of the children and families is not the only concern. Traffic is extreme on Whiteford Road. There are times when you can’t even make a left turn out of Corey Meadows.

Certainly, the coming and going of cars and ambulances will make things even worse and create a risk for children in the neighborhood.

Also, the proposed facility brings the potential for sirens at all hours and parking lot lights. It is counter to the definition and the environment of living in a lovely, well-established neighborhood.

It is beyond logic that Omni Properties Cos. of Beachwood, Ohio, has appealed the Sylvania Township Zoning Boards decision to deny a conditional-use permit for building an assisted living and dementia-care business of 160 units, a two-story central building and 100 parking spots on 10 acres in the middle of a single-family home residential area.

It would be better for them to find a more appropriate commercial-zoned space and leave our families and neighborhood alone.

Character second

I welcomed Keith Burris’ take (“The treasure of the west,” May 17) on the partisan posturing on harassment claims being made against Joe Biden, and the double standard in how such claims are treated. But the real issue is not “whose ox is being gored.”

It is that it does not make any difference whether such claims are true or false. Those who voted for President Trump knew what a randy bully he has been and, likely, will always be. Just as progressives and most Democrats would vote for Mr. Biden, even if graphic photos verifying his lustful actions were to surface. It just does not matter anymore what a candidate’s character is. It only matters if it is our candidate and he or she will support our agenda.
