Three defendants charged in connection to the robbery and fatal shooting of an East Toledo man made an initial appearance Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Justin Wright, 28, of the 1700 block of Walnut Street; Dominique Roberts, 28, of the 530 block of Pearl Street, and Darion Martin, 23, of the 1700 block of Walnut Street, each appeared before Judge Michael Goulding for arraignment on charges related to the July 6 killing of Tyler Carr, 24, at his home in the 1300 block of Ironwood Avenue.

Another defendant, Adrian Eaton, 22, faces charges in relation to the July 6 shooting. Police announced Wednesday that Mr. Eaton was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Georgia and could be extradited back to Ohio as early as next week.

The four defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, and aggravated burglary — all with gun specifications.

The three defendants, along with another inmate, were linked together by handcuffs as they shuffled into the courtroom. Upwards of 10 deputies lined various portions of the courtroom, while other officers stood in the hallways.

Court officials said extra security measures were in place after the victim’s father attempted to go after one of the defendants in a July 9 Toledo Municipal Court appearance. A victim advocate Wednesday said it appeared no family member of the victim was present.

Judge Goulding called Wright’s case first, though defense attorney Paul Geller requested Wright’s arraignment be continued for two weeks, as Geller had not been formally retained.

Roberts indicated he retained Jeremy Levy, who was not present for Wednesday’s arraignment, and the judge continued his arraignment.

Mr. Martin said he wished to have two weeks to retain an attorney.

The three will return to court July 31 for arraignment.

Judge Goulding continued the defendant’s previously set bonds from Toledo Municipal Court, and added an additional $50,000 on the indicted murder and aggravated burglary charge.

Martin is accused of driving Roberts and Wright to the East Toledo duplex, where the shooting took place.

Roberts is accused of entering Mr. Carr’s home, where multiple people were present. He and Wright brandished firearms and went through people’s pockets — looking for items to take, according to court records.

Mr. Carr was shot in the chest, abdomen, and left thigh, and suffered injury to his liver and right kidney, according to Dr. Jeffrey Hudson, a Lucas County deputy coroner.

Roberts was also shot in his genitals during the incident and he was transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center for his injuries.
