'Tis the season for holiday music

Masterworks Chorale, Toledo Symphony, Ballet Theatre of Toledo, many more celebrate the season.

Masterworks Chorale celebrates the season with a concert titled “New Life.” Tim Cloeter will conduct; Kevin McGill will accompany. The event celebrates mother and newborn child in both sacred and secular music, poetry, and audience carols.

Literature performed runs the historical gamut from the Renaissance to the present day. Featured works include David Dickau’s Hope Carol, William Mathias’ A Babe is Born, and Malcolm Archer’s O Nata Lux.

The concert happens twice, 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4955 W. Central Ave. Tickets available at 419-742-2775 or masterworkstoledo.com.

■ The Toledo Symphony continues holiday music around the area with several concerts this week including: 7 p.m. Dec. 10, Westgate Chapel, 2500 Wilford Dr., Toledo; tickets at 419-841-8004; 7 p.m. Dec. 11, Clay High School, 5665 Seaman Rd., Oregon; tickets at 419-693-0665 and 7 p.m. Dec.12, St. Patrick Catholic Church, 610 S. In addition, the Symphony teams up with two area ensembles in other holiday offerings. ■ Jazz vocalist Sarah D’Angelo celebrates the season with a free concert 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Cloister Gallery, Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St. 419-255-8000 or toledomuseum.org.

■ The River Raisin Ballet Company presents its annual Nutcracker 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday at the River Raisin Centre for the Arts, 114 South Main St., Monroe. Tickets $18-$25 at 734-242-7722 or riverraisincentre.org.

Perrysburg Chorale and Owens Voices Choir present a free Classical Christmas 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 200 West Second St., Perrysburg.
